Noted in an article from the Wall St Journal titled Export Controls to Take Center Stage at U.S.-China Trade Talks, “The trade war between Washington and Beijing has in recent weeks veered away from tariffs, focusing instead on each country’s restrictions on material or products the other side desperately needs.” These negotiations aim to have China increase its exports of rare earth metals to the US, and allow China to receive U.S. made chip hardware – essential to AI development. A deal to rescind trade restrictions would result in broad impacts on industries ranging from chip manufacturers to the US auto industry, and would potentially open up the flow of goods between the world’s two largest economies.
