I spent the beginning part of this week in Florida watching the Detroit Tigers play the Washington Nationals. I think these two teams could meet again in the October Classic.
The Detroit Tigers have a combination of incredibly good starting pitching and outstanding power hitting. The relief pitching is a question mark but notwithstanding the inconsistency of this mostly young crew, my suspicion is that they will be able to get the job done. A ninth inning lead of four runs might be cut to one run, but I suspect often they will win the game.
The Washington Nationals have good, but not spectacular, starting pitching and a combination of Punch and Judy type hitters with lots of speed on the base paths. They also play very smart baseball, coached by the legendary Davey Johnson.
My colleague Dave Bergman, a professional baseball player for 19 years, will provide a more comprehensive and thorough review of the Detroit Tigers in an upcoming issue of the Sigma Summaries. But this will serve as a quick synopsis.
